Our Philanthropies

For the past three years the Elegant Expressions elves have been busy piecing and longarm quilting to provide holiday gifts for the young cancer patients at Ronald McDonald House. On average, we have completed 18 quilts which we have given each December. This is a philanthropy which is close to my heart, and it gives me a great pleasure to know that some youngers will be wrapping themselves with a cosy quilt while going through their treatments and recovery.

Following completion of my move to Oregon, it will back to work piecing and quilting my 2010 gift for the kids.

Other Activities

There are a great group of ladies who meet at Leah's once a month and work hard to provide our wounded veterans with quilts. I donated the longarm quilting of a queen-sized quilt for them, and they're holding it up for the camera.

I asked one of the ladies (Kathy) to send me a note telling me something about their activities, and have just received it. Here it is:

"I'm one of the women whom you met at Leah's last week. Sorry our attendance was so low that day. You wanted a little information about our group. We call ourselves the Designing Women. There are about ten of us that meet on a monthly basis. We usually meet at Leah's. Sometimes we go on field trips to various quilt shows, fabric stores and we (always!) go out to lunch. We have donated several quilts to various organizations (including the Beach Cities Quilters Guild) for auction. We are just finishing several quilts that we plan on donating to the wounded soldiers at Camp Pendelton. We are thinking about making baby quilts as our next project.
