Our Textiles
We provide our quilting customers with a wide variety of highly creative, color-rich marbled and hand-dyed textiles.

Marbled Fabrics
Marbling originated in Japan around the twelfth century. Some believe it was discovered by accident by someone in the Japanese imperial family who submerged sumi ink paintings in water, watched the inks float to the surface, then put a piece of paper on the floating ink, lifted it up and preserved the image. This technique was termed suminagashi, or "ink floating". Today, fabric marbling is practiced by thousands of masters who explore and revitalize the traditional methods, bringing new ideas to this wonderful form of artistry.
We use Jacquard professional, artist-quality inks for marbling. Used by award-winning artists, these colors provide great intensity and stability to the finished textiles.

Hand-Dyed Fabrics
Humans have been painting on fabric for thousands of years, basically since people started twisting and weaving fibers together to make the first fabrics. We use fiber-reactive procion, the best fabric painting dye for natural fabrics. The colors are brilliant and permanent. They don't fade, even after repeated washings.

"Exotic" Hand-Painted Fabrics
We will be announcing a new line of textiles at the Flying Geese Quilt Show in October. We call this our "Exotic Textiles for Quilters". They are very unusual fabrics which we have hand painted with Procion dyes to various hues. They are available in both intense and soft colours. Stop by at our booth and see these fantastic fat quarters which will give highlights and sparkles to your quilting projects.

Fabric Care and Other Considerations
Fabric Care
Marbled fabrics are delicate and should be hand washed. Wash in cool water with a mild soap and hang to dry. Touch up with cool iron (silk setting). Do not dry clean.
Hand-painted and dyed fabrics are made with procion dyes unless otherwise noted. Procion dyes bond to the fibers of natural fabrics such as cotton and silk. Hand-painted and dyed fabrics are washed several times before being made ready for sale. These fabrics can be washed in warm water with any detergent and placed in the dryer. Iron on cotton setting. These fabrics can be pre-washed before sewing, if desired. After the dye and wash process, we place sizing on the fabric to give the fabric a crisp feel.
Other considerations
None of our fabrics is suitable for children's pajamas as they are not flame retardant. Fabrics are hand-marbled or dyed and are, therefore, subject to inconsistencies in the color. These inconsistencies, or "mottled" effects make each piece unique and beautiful ... no two are alike! All fabrics are 100% cotton, unless otherwise noted. Questions about our fabrics?
